Magnac-Laval
I first came to Magnac-Laval when I was looking for a
house. The agent showed me a couple, then said, 'How about a Château?'
'You', I replied, 'are joking.' 'Well, yes, but come and look anyway.'
We went. We looked. It was a nineteenth-century rebuild of a genuine old
chéteau, but it was in the back yard of a big farm
and it needed about a million pounds spending on it. 'How much?' I asked. 'Oh,
about one franc, I think.' Nevertheless,I declined.
Probably by now it has been snapped up by a dealer in architectural antiques.
The fireplace alone would be worth thousands.
